Historical Society Seeks Public's Assistance in Locating Donors

The Historical Society of Quaker Hill and Pawling has in its posession a number of objects that were loaned to this organization by generous community members during its early years, specifically the period between 1910 through 1925.

According to the President Nada Davis, New York State law provides organizations such as the Historical Society with a process whereby the identity of the descendents of these donors can be located so that the Historical Society can either return these loaned objects or obtain a deed of gift to retain them. This is important because at the present time the Historical Society is responsible for a number of items in its care that it does not own.

Davis explained that the successful completion of this process is imperative to assure continuity of the Historical Society's accession system and guarantee the preservation of all of the artifacts in the Society's care. The Pawling Community and surrounding area has always been very supportive of the Historical Society and its work. Many local members of our community loaned a number of items to us in the early 1900s. These items are important parts of local history and we are grateful for them. However, under New York law, we must try to find the descendents of these mareials to determine if they wish to have these items either returned to them or would allow us to keep them as a gift. We are hopeful the public will help us find these people, Davis concluded.

The following are the names of the people being sought: C. H. Adams, T. J. Arnold, W. Berts, J. N. Crane or Crane-Phelps, Charles Evens, Mrs. Charles P. Delerand, and Mrs. G. M. Klingelhoffer daughters of Merrick Dentom Green Estate, M. E. Hoag, D. Lansden, S. G. Palmer (1915-16), F. C. Taber, C. Taylor, Olivia C. Taber, Annie Thomas, J. S. Wing, Sarah H. Wing, M. Wilbur.

Anyone with information about these individuals is asked to contact the Historical Society of Quaker Hill and Pawling at P. O. B. 99, Pawling New York 12564
